Why we don't hand over a website and walk away

The usual way of buying a website is to pay a few thousand up front, get the files, and then discover that "finished" was never really a thing. We do it differently, and here is the honest reasoning.
The usual way of buying a website goes something like this. You pay somewhere between two and six thousand euros up front. Six weeks later you get a set of files and a login. Everyone shakes hands. And then, slowly, it stops being anyone's job.
The certificate expires. A plugin update breaks the contact form. Your opening hours changed in March and the site still says the old ones in August. You email the person who built it and they have moved on to other work, or moved country, or simply take four days to reply because you are no longer a paying client.
None of that is anyone behaving badly. It is just what happens when the money stops.
What we do instead
We build the site, and then we keep it. Hosting, the SSL certificate, the domain, backups, updates and someone to email are all part of a monthly plan. There is a setup fee to build the thing, and after that it is a subscription — the same as your accounting software or your phone line.
The trade is straightforward, and we would rather say it plainly than bury it: you do not own the website. You own your content, your images, your enquiries and your data — always, and we will export any of it for you free of charge. But the site itself, the templates and the platform stay ours, and that is what makes it worth our while to keep looking after it.
If that sounds like a catch, it is worth asking what the alternative actually buys you. A folder of files you cannot host, on a platform you cannot update, is not really ownership. It is a receipt.
Who this suits
It suits businesses who want a website that keeps working and do not want to think about it. It does not suit someone who wants to take the code and run their own thing — and if that is you, tell us at the start and we will quote you for a one-off build instead. We do those too.
